A pastor rips off his robe mid-sermon to reveal a soldier's uniform underneath. Another hands out hymnals for cannon wadding while shouting "Give 'em Watts, boys!" A third becomes the only clergyman to sign the Declaration of Independence. Decades earlier, a Philadelphia prayer opens with a psalm so fitting to the moment that John Adams called it heaven-ordained. These weren't politicians borrowing religious language - they were pastors who concluded, after wrestling honestly with Scripture, that faithfulness sometimes means standing in the path of an empire. We're tracing the sermons, the prayers, and the preachers who lit the fire of the American Revolution, in this edition of GNITN.
