When Comfort Becomes an Idol
Subtitle: "Tracing the Fruit From Complacent Faith to Cultural Collapse"
The Bad Fruit that flows from the Master of Comfort
- Pursuing the Master of Comfort, Popularity, Prosperity & Pleasure leads us to:
- Deny God's Command to be co-laborers with Christ, having a passive, complacent faith, having no meaningful hunger & thirst for Righteousness
- Deceive ourselves into believing that God is pleased with our passive, lukewarm, complacent & powerless faith
- We resort to being "Church-goers" who are active in programs and meetings, but not living as a disciple of Christ, and making no effort to make disciples for
Christ
- We create a world for ourselves where we pretend that everything in the world around us is OK, and absolve ourselves of the Call of God to be Salt & Light for God ls Kingdom, being unwilling to produce the Fruit of Righteousness
- Loss of the Fear of the Lord, a departing from Righteousness
- Unwillingness to put forth effort to learn, grow & become effective for the Kingdom of God & His
Righteousness because it disrupts comfort
- A decline in Biblical Convictions & a loss of Moral Courage
- Becoming more concerned & focused upon one's own image, popularity & reputation over being conformed to the Image of Christ (comfort, convenience, popularity becomes one's identity & purpose, opinions become more important than God's Word)
- Developing a cold or hard heart towards the overarching mission of the Church: Be a disciple who makes disciples who advance God's Kingdom & Righteousness and take authority over the works of darkness
- Despising & resenting the diligent effort & work of others to promote & advance God's Kingdom & Righteousness
2. Complacency & Laziness
Definition of Complacency:
the quality or state of being satisfied accompanied by unawareness or ignorance of actual dangers or deficiencies, often a willful ignorance and denial of dangers or deficiencies in order to maintain a perception of mental, emotional or physical comfort, and avoid responsibility
Definition of Laziness:
the quality of not being willing to work or use any effort
- Failed or ineffective Stewardship
Definition of Stewardship:
the careful and responsible management of something entrusted to one's care
- Breakdown & deterioration of one's effectiveness, influence and authority for God in society, followed by:
- Rise of lawlessness & corruption
- loss of respect & loss of human dignity in society, government is esteemed superior to God, the culture is valued above God's Kingdom
- Good is called evil, evil is called Good; perversion replaces Truth, Moral Decency & common-sense; therefore, as a result, oppression & abuse gain dominion and reign over our lives, as God-given rights & liberties are eliminated, and persecution becomes an every day reality
Bible Verse: Psalm 47:1-2
