A Kingdom That Crushes All Kingdoms

Two prophets, writing centuries apart, both saw the same thing coming: a final world system that gathers every nation under one authority before the Kingdom of God breaks in and ends it. Daniel saw it as a statue crumbling under a stone cut without hands. John saw it as a beast rising from the sea with authority over every tribe, tongue, and nation. This week's headlines - out of the UN, the BRICS bloc, and the quiet infrastructure of digital identity - read like scaffolding going up for exactly that kind of system. In Daniel 2:44, Daniel tells Nebuchadnezzar that in the days of these kings the God of heaven will set up a kingdom which shall never be destroyed - and that this kingdom shall break in pieces and consume all these kingdoms, and it shall stand forever. The statue Daniel interprets is a succession of world empires, ending in a final, divided kingdom - feet of iron mixed with clay - that God alone brings down. Daniel's second vision in Daniel 7:23-24 sharpens the picture: a fourth beast, different from all other kingdoms, ruled by ten kings, out of whom another shall rise and subdue three of them. John picks up that same fourth-beast imagery six hundred years later in Revelation 13:1-8, where a beast rises from the sea and is given authority over every tribe, tongue, and nation. And in Revelation 17:12-13, ten kings who have received no kingdom as yet give their power and authority to the beast - these are of one mind. Whatever this final arrangement looks like, the text is consistent: it is global, it is coordinated, and it does not last. Keep those three markers - global scope, coordinated authority, a currency/commerce control mechanism - in mind as we look at this week's news.

The Beast Gets a Governance Board

On July 6-7, the United Nations convened its first-ever Global Dialogue on AI Governance in Geneva, alongside the AI for Good Summit - described by UN officials as the first platform under a UN General Assembly mandate where every member state and stakeholder convenes on AI policy. It grew out of the 2024 Pact for the Future and Global Digital Compact, and it now has its own standing body: a 40-member Independent International Scientific Panel on AI, appointed by the UN General Assembly for three-year terms to hand down what the UN calls evidence-based assessments on AI's risks and opportunities. Secretary-General Antonio Guterres opened the dialogue warning that artificial intelligence is advancing at runaway speed, according to UN News, and Under-Secretary-General Amandeep Singh Gill called the gathering a turning point... for how the international community responds, per UNESCO's coverage. More than 500 of the 1,500+ written submissions to the process specifically asked that it continue permanently rather than end in July, according to Inter Press Service. A standing global panel, a standing global dialogue, a stated ambition to make it permanent - this is what centralized global oversight of a defining technology looks like in its early, procedural stage. It doesn't need a throne or a title to fit the pattern of Daniel 7:23 - a fourth beast different from all other kingdoms, and it shall devour the whole earth.

No Buying or Selling Without It

Commentary circulating this week draws a direct line from national digital ID rollouts to the UN's own language. One widely-shared piece, “They're a Step Closer to a One World...”, points out that Iran has introduced a digital ID linked to food purchases, and argues the UN's Global Digital Compact effectively calls for banks to issue mandatory digital IDs that could gate access to services for the non-compliant - even as the UN frames the same push as building an open, free, and secure digital future. The author's conclusion: this is a step toward a centralized, bank-linked identity system that determines access to services. Whatever you make of that read, the shape of it is exactly what John describes in Revelation 13:16-17: He causes all... to receive a mark on their right hand or on their foreheads, and that no one may buy or sell except one who has the mark. A system that can gate commerce through identity verification is the mechanism - the mark itself is a separate question, and one worth real caution before naming.

The Ten Toes Look for a Currency

On the money side, India - chairing BRICS this year - has formally proposed linking the bloc's central bank digital currencies (the e-rupee, the digital yuan, and others) as a 2026 summit agenda item, explicitly aimed at reducing dependence on the US dollar, according to Modern Diplomacy. Gateway House frames it as a move toward financial multipolarity, while the technical backbone - BRICS Pay - is meant to interconnect member nations' digital currencies as an alternative to SWIFT, per BRICS Brasil, with a goal of connecting China, Russia, India, Brazil, and South Africa's digital currencies by the end of 2026. To be fair, EBC Financial Group cautions that a true single shared currency is still a long way off - what's actually advancing is interoperability between separate national CBDCs, not one global coin. Still, a bloc now covering Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa, Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, Indonesia, and the UAE deliberately building shared digital-currency rails outside dollar-based systems is a real, measurable step toward the kind of coordinated economic bloc Revelation 17:13 describes - kings who have one mind and give their power and authority to the beast.

Look Up - Our Redemption Draws Near

None of this is the beast system itself - a standing UN AI panel is not the Antichrist, and a CBDC interoperability proposal is not the mark. But the scaffolding for a final, global, coordinated system is visibly going up, and that is not a reason for fear. It is a reason for hope. Jesus told us exactly how to respond when we see days like this. In Luke 21:28, He says: Now when these things begin to happen, look up and lift up your heads, because your redemption draws near. Paul calls this same expectation Titus 2:13's blessed hope - the glorious appearing of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ. We are watching a global system take shape that Daniel and John described thousands of years ago, and that convergence is one more sign that the Rapture and the Tribulation are drawing close. But a believer who knows the times should not be gripped by dread - we should be moved to urgency. Jesus was clear about what fills the time we have left in Matthew 24:14: This gospel of the kingdom will be preached in all the world as a witness to all the nations, and then the end will come. The Great Commission and the nearness of His return are not in tension - they are the same instruction. The closer we get, the more reason we have to reach the people around us. So test what you're seeing, stay sober-minded, and let it move you to share the hope you have, not to hide from the headlines. 1 Thessalonians 4:16-18 ends this exact discussion with an instruction, not a warning: comfort one another with these words. As I’ve said before, prophecy isn’t meant to scare us but prepare us. And as we said a lot when I was a new believer, Maranatha – the Lord is coming again!
