They Belong Together
Today we are going to step back and look at the powerful connection between the books of Daniel and Revelation. Daniel and Revelation belong together. Daniel gives us the prophetic framework. Revelation gives us the final unveiling. Daniel introduces the rise and fall of world empires. Revelation shows the final global system that comes before the return of Jesus Christ.
Daniel gives the pattern. Revelation shows the climax. Daniel shows us beastly kingdoms rising against God. Revelation shows the final Beast system. Daniel shows a coming ruler who speaks against the Most High. Revelation shows the Beast who blasphemes God and demands worship. Daniel shows persecution against the saints for a limited time. Revelation shows that same final period. So, when we study Daniel, we are not just studying ancient history. We are studying prophetic patterns that reach all the way to the end of the age.
God Rules Over Kingdoms
One of the biggest messages in Daniel is that God rules over the kingdoms of men. Daniel begins with God’s people in exile. Jerusalem has fallen. Babylon appears to be in control. Nebuchadnezzar sits on the throne, and from a human perspective, it looks like the kingdoms of this world have won. But Daniel reveals a greater reality: heaven still rules. Kings rise. Kings fall. Empires come. Empires go. Leaders boast. Nations rage. But God is never threatened by human power. In Daniel 2, Nebuchadnezzar sees a great statue made of different metals. These metals represent kingdoms. But then Daniel sees a stone cut out without hands strike the statue and destroy it. That stone becomes a great mountain and fills the whole earth. Daniel 2:44 says:
“And in the days of these kings the God of heaven will set up a kingdom which shall never be destroyed.” (NKJV)
That is the prophetic message of Daniel: every human kingdom is temporary, but God’s kingdom is eternal. Revelation brings that promise to its final fulfillment. Revelation 11:15 says:
“The kingdoms of this world have become the kingdoms of our Lord and of His Christ, and He shall reign forever and ever.” (NKJV)
Daniel sees the stone coming. Revelation announces the kingdom has arrived. Daniel shows that man’s kingdoms will fall. Revelation shows that Christ’s kingdom will replace them all.
The Beasts of Daniel and Revelation
Another major connection between Daniel and Revelation is the image of the beast. In Daniel 7, Daniel sees four beasts rising out of the sea. These beasts represent kingdoms. They are powerful, violent, and destructive. This is important because in Daniel 2, the kingdoms of the world looked like a beautiful statue made of gold, silver, bronze, and iron. But in Daniel 7, those same kinds of kingdoms are pictured as beasts. That tells us something powerful. Man looks at empire and sees glory. God looks at rebellious empire and sees a beast. Man sees wealth, power, and success. God sees pride, violence, rebellion, and corruption. Then in Revelation 13, John sees a beast rising out of the sea. That language should immediately take us back to Daniel 7. Revelation’s Beast carries the imagery of Daniel’s beasts and brings it into one final end-time system. Daniel shows the pattern of beastly kingdoms. Revelation shows the final Beast system.
This tells us that evil is not only personal. It can also become organized. It can become political. It can become religious. It can become economic. It can become global. Daniel gives us the prophetic pattern. Revelation shows the final form.
The Final Ruler
Daniel also points to a coming ruler who rises out of the final beastly kingdom. In Daniel 7, he is called the “little horn.” He speaks arrogant words against God, persecutes the saints, and seeks to change times and law.
Daniel 7:25 says:
“He shall speak pompous words against the Most High, shall persecute the saints of the Most High…” (NKJV)
Revelation 13 shows a similar figure in the Beast. He speaks blasphemies, receives authority, makes war with the saints, and demands worship. Daniel gives us the prophetic profile. Revelation shows the final manifestation. And Revelation reveals the spiritual power behind him. Revelation 13 says the dragon gives the Beast his power, throne, and authority. The dragon is Satan. So this final ruler is not merely political. He is spiritually empowered. He represents the final rebellion of man under the influence of Satan. But even then, his time is limited.
A Limited Time of Trouble
Daniel and Revelation both describe a specific period of intense trouble. Make no mistake, while the last half of the Tribulation will be unlike any time in the history of the world, the full seven years are no walk in the park. Revelation describes the same period. Seven years of God’s wrath on a world that rejected Him. But the key prophetic point is this: the final rage of evil is intense, but limited. The Beast does not get forever. The enemy does not get forever. Persecution does not get forever. Tribulation does not get forever. God has measured it. God has numbered it. God has placed boundaries around it. That is one of the great comforts of prophecy. It does not tell us that darkness will never come. It tells us that darkness will not win.
The Final Conflict Is Worship
Daniel and Revelation also show us that the final conflict is not merely political. It is spiritual. It is about worship. In Daniel 3, Nebuchadnezzar builds an image and commands everyone to bow. The issue is not just government authority. The issue is worship and allegiance. Will God’s people bow to the image, or will they remain faithful to the Lord? Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego refuse to bow. They are willing to face the fiery furnace rather than worship a false image. That becomes a prophetic preview of Revelation 13. In Revelation, the Beast has an image. The world is pressured to worship. Those who refuse are persecuted. Daniel 3 gives the pattern. Revelation 13 shows the final global version. So the final question is not simply, “What do you believe?” The final question is, “Whom do you worship?” Will the world worship the Beast, or will God’s people remain faithful to the Lamb? That is why Revelation 14:12 says:
“Here is the patience of the saints; here are those who keep the commandments of God and the faith of Jesus.”
Babylon: The World System Against God
Daniel begins in Babylon. Revelation ends with the judgment of Babylon. That is another major connection. In Daniel, Babylon is a real empire. It is the place where God’s people are exiled. It is the place of idolatry, pride, compromise, and pressure to conform. But Babylon becomes more than one ancient city. In Scripture, Babylon becomes a picture of the world system in rebellion against God. Babylon says, “Make a name for yourself.” Babylon says, “Bow to the image.”
Babylon says, “Compromise to survive.” Babylon says, “Take the rewards of the system and forget who you belong to.” Revelation shows final Babylon as a corrupt, seductive, wealthy, violent system that deceives the nations and persecutes the saints. But Revelation also gives the final word: “Babylon the great is fallen, is fallen.” That is the message. Babylon looks powerful, but Babylon falls. The world system looks permanent, but it is temporary. The kingdom of Christ is the only kingdom that lasts forever.
The Son of Man and the Coming King
The most important connection between Daniel and Revelation is not the Beast. It is not Babylon. It is not the timeline. The most important connection is Jesus. In Daniel 7, Daniel sees One like the Son of Man coming with the clouds of heaven. He receives dominion, glory, and a kingdom. All peoples, nations, and languages serve Him. His kingdom is everlasting. Daniel 7:14 says:
“His dominion is an everlasting dominion, which shall not pass away, and His kingdom the one which shall not be destroyed.” (NKJV)
Revelation picks up that same language. Revelation 1:7 says:
“Behold, He is coming with clouds, and every eye will see Him.” (NKJV)
Revelation 1 shows Jesus as One like the Son of Man. Revelation 19 shows Him returning as King of kings and Lord of lords. Daniel sees the Son of Man receiving the kingdom. Revelation shows the Son of Man returning to take possession of it. The Beast may rise. Babylon may seduce. The nations may rage. But the Son of Man is coming. And when He comes, every kingdom that opposes Him will fall.
The Big Prophetic Message
So what is the big connection between Daniel and Revelation? Daniel gives the prophetic foundation. Revelation gives the final fulfillment. Daniel shows that world empires rise and fall.
Revelation shows the final collapse of the world system. Daniel shows beastly kingdoms.
Revelation shows the final Beast. Daniel shows a coming ruler who opposes God. Revelation shows the Beast empowered by the dragon. Daniel shows a limited time of persecution. Revelation gives that same prophetic time period. Daniel shows Babylon as the place of exile and compromise. Revelation shows final Babylon judged. Daniel shows the Son of Man receiving the kingdom. Revelation shows Jesus returning with the clouds. Together, they tell one prophetic story: Human kingdoms will rise, but they will not last. Evil will intensify, but it will not win. The saints may be tested, but they will not be forgotten. Babylon will fall. The Beast will be judged. The Son of Man will reign.
Prepared Not Scared
Daniel and Revelation are not meant to make believers afraid. They are meant to make believers steady. The message is not, “Be afraid, the Beast is coming.” The message is, “Be faithful, the King is coming.” The message is not, “Babylon is powerful.” The message is, “Babylon is fallen.” The message is not, “The world is out of control.” The message is, “Heaven rules.”
Daniel teaches us to stay faithful in Babylon. Revelation teaches us that Babylon does not get the final word. Daniel teaches us that beastly kingdoms rise. Revelation teaches us that the Beast will fall. Daniel teaches us that the Son of Man will receive the kingdom. Revelation teaches us that Jesus Christ will return and reign forever. So as we continue studying Daniel, we need to remember that we are not just reading ancient history. We are reading prophecy. We are reading patterns. We are reading the framework that Revelation later unveils. And the final message is clear: The kingdoms of this world are temporary. The kingdom of Christ is eternal. The Beast does not win. Babylon does not last. The Lamb reigns. And Jesus is coming soon.
