A Four-Week Study on Godly Leadership
CHAPTER ONE: ENTERING THE COURTROOM
Before we can stand trial, we must first know the Judge - His character, His holiness, and His witness.
Laying the Foundation
A. God Alone Is Good
1. God is Light, and in Him is no darkness (1 John 1:5)
a. God's love is pure, enduring, holy, and faithful (1 Corinthians 13:4-7,13)
b. God is Truth, and God's Word alone defines what is good and what is evil. If God's Word declares something to be good, then it is good; if God's Word declares something to be evil, then it is evil (John 4:23-24)
c. God is merciful to those who fear His name (Luke 1:50)
d. The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom (Proverbs 8:13-14)
e. The fear of the Lord is to hate evil
f. Apart from God and His Word, the heart of man is deceitful and wicked
g. If we live according to God's mercy and truth, we will obtain favor with God and man (Proverbs 3:3-8)
2. Review of the introduction to the book, “The Faithful, The Fearful & The Foolish: Living for God in Troubled Times”
a. Everything occurring in the world today is also a consequence of human behavior
b. The strongest thing on planet earth is the will of man - even God Himself will not violate it.
c. God accomplishes His will upon earth by working in and through the lives of His people who are willing to honor and obey His Word
3. The witness and testimony of God (John 3:11)
a. If we claim to worship God in spirit and truth, we will then receive and abide in His witness and testimony
b. God is the great “I AM,” from everlasting to everlasting - the Father of all creation, and all creation will give an account to Him. The Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit are the source of all life, love, truth, and goodness. Apart from God, there is no life, no truth, no goodness, and no hope.
c. God created heaven and earth and saw that all His creation was good
d. War broke out in heaven because Lucifer exalted himself against God. Because of pride, Lucifer defiled himself and his angels and was cast out of heaven. Jesus said, “I saw Satan fall like lightning from heaven” (Luke 10:18)
e. Pride and rebellion toward God will cause us to be cast out or cast down
f. God saw the temptation, fall, and rebellion of man (separation from God). Man went from perfection to imperfection, from holy to profane, from pure to defiled, from light to darkness, and from good to evil
g. When we refuse to acknowledge our sinful condition, we reject the witness and testimony of God
h. In the days of Noah, God saw that the thoughts and imaginations of all people were continually evil
i. God heard the cries of His people for deliverance from the bondage of slavery and abuse, and He saw their need for a Savior and Deliverer
j. God saw that humanity was eternally lost without His intervention and redemption
k. God sent Jesus Christ into the world to bring the good news of the Kingdom of God, to destroy the works of the devil, and to restore the beauty of holiness to humanity
l. All those who believe and receive Jesus Christ are given the promise, power, and inheritance of being children of God
m. We are called and commanded to advance God's Kingdom and righteousness through Jesus Christ, by the power of the Holy Spirit in the world around us, so the will of God may be done here on earth as it is in heaven
n. The will of God can only be done here on earth as it is in heaven by making disciples (Matthew 28:18-20)
o. Making disciples is teaching others to observe and obey all things that Jesus has commanded us to do
4. God's command is eternal life through Jesus Christ
a. Declare the good news of the Kingdom of God
b. Overcome the works of darkness by the wisdom and authority of God's Word
c. Be restored to the beauty of holiness through Jesus Christ
