All Dressed Up
Released terrorists have been released as part of the ceasefire deal but apparently no one wants to take them as we read in a report on the conundrum first from i24news.tv:
Seventy members of Hamas released from Israeli prisons as part of the hostage agreement are currently stranded in a hotel in Cairo, with the countries that had committed to hosting them not yet formally agreeing to do so.
"To date, no Arab country has agreed to receive even a single released and expelled Palestinian prisoner," a source from the Palestinian Prisoner Authority told Ynet.
The released prisoners are complaining about their accommodations, although their cries are falling on deaf ears:
The ex-prisoners, who are not allowed to leave their hotel, describe their situation as moving "from an Israeli prison to an Egyptian prison." The source reports that they had to stay for a long time with their prison clothes and sandals, adding that "the Egyptians do not treat them warmly."
More released prisoners are still in Gaza with Qatar is saying it is up to the countries where they go:
In addition to those stuck in Egypt, 23 other prisoners who were supposed to be deported abroad are trapped in the Gaza Strip. Among the countries mentioned as potential destinations are Algeria, Turkey, Tunisia, and Qatar.
In a joint statement, Qatari Prime Minister Mohammed al-Thani and Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan announced that they would agree to host a portion of the released prisoners, without specifying their number. Al-Thani emphasized that hosting the Palestinian prisoners "must be based on their own decision," while Fidan simply stated: "We have agreed to accommodate a certain number of Palestinian prisoners expelled abroad."
Israel stipulated that the most dangerous terrorists released can’t stay in Israel and now it appears that no one really wants them either. This could be a sticking point for the next phase of the agreement:
This situation arises as negotiations for phase two of the agreement are about to begin. Al-Thani indicated that there is no clear plan yet for conducting the discussions, adding that Qatar is currently holding talks with Israel and Hamas in preparation for the negotiations. "We hope to see movement on this issue in the coming days," he said.
One country might take some of them, though.
Traveling To Pakistan
According to an article from themedialine.org some of the released terrorists may be heading to Pakistan but the government won’t admit to it:
Hamas said on Monday that Pakistan has agreed to host 15 Palestinian prisoners who were released from Israeli custody under a recent ceasefire agreement. However, Pakistan’s Interior Ministry has denied any knowledge of the arrangement, and the Foreign Ministry has yet to respond.
Hamas seems to think they have a deal:
Speaking to Independent Urdu—the Urdu-language edition of the British newspaper The Independent—Hamas spokesman Dr. Khalid Al-Qadoumi said, “Initially, the number will be 15, but the timeline for their arrival in Pakistan has not yet been determined.” According to Independent Urdu, the Palestinians planning to travel to Pakistan will transit through Egypt and Turkey, though they have not yet left Egypt.
He said that at least five countries will take their prisoners
Al-Qadoumi added, “Several Islamic countries, including Egypt, Turkey, Indonesia, Malaysia, and Algeria, have expressed willingness to host a group of Palestinian prisoners released under the Tufan al-Ahrar agreement. Discussions with these countries are currently ongoing.”
One source states that Pakistan is one of four destinations for the terrorists:
Earlier, the Palestinian news agency Quds Press reported that Pakistan was among four countries agreeing to host prisoners released under the Gaza ceasefire. Citing a “senior Hamas official,” the agency stated on Monday that “the [Hamas] movement is currently negotiating with several countries to secure approval for hosting the remaining released prisoners.”
So far about 100 freed prisoners are already out of Israel and awaiting relocation with one country declining to house them:
Quds Press also noted that 99 Palestinian prisoners freed by Israel have been deported to Egypt, with a total of 263 prisoners expected to be released by the end of the ceasefire’s first phase. The report indicated that 15 prisoners are due to arrive in Turkey from Cairo on Tuesday, February 4. It further mentioned that Hamas is in talks with Algeria and Indonesia to take in prisoners, while Tunisia has declined to do so.
Leaving the Gaza Strip is supposed to happen. As negotiations continue, this situation could keep the deal from lasting. And adding to the complications is the proposed relocating of all Gazans by President Donald Trump:
These reports come as negotiations for the agreement’s second phase are set to begin on Tuesday and after US President Donald Trump prompted controversy by suggesting that Arab nations, including Jordan and Egypt, should take in large numbers of Palestinian refugees from Gaza as part of a plan to “clean out” the conflict-ravaged region. Trump’s remarks, made to reporters on Air Force One, drew strong criticism from regional leaders and human rights advocates who argue that the proposal would lead to forced displacement and undermine Palestinian identity.
If these Gazans would agree to live in peace with Israel all of these situations would resolve themselves. However after decades of being taught that Israel is the enemy and all Jews must die, that hope is the stuff of fairy tales and pixie dust. And the question must be asked why other nations who share their views about Israel aren’t willing to take them in? It should be a match made in heaven, at least on the surface, but there must be something holding these relocations up. History might hold the answer for us. These people who refused to live in the land of Palestine when it was offered to them were kicked out from Lebanon and Jordan for trying to take over each of their governments and constantly rioting to cause more unrest. And the same problem exists today. These other countries know that history and don’t want the headaches.
