What If Kamala or Trump Wins?
Back In 2020
I remember how many of us felt that there would be a red wave in 2020 and President Trump would win a second term. And when election night turned into election morning and them into election mourning when we saw votes suddenly discovered during the night in state after state, well, it got more and more depressing. The only hope we had was words of prophecy that started popping up that assured us God was working. Then the prophecies turned to exposing the corruption that created what we affectionately called the Big Steal. People like Mike Lindell stopped selling pillows and started counting stolen votes and was attacked vociferously for it. He would find digital evidence for cheating and present it to a media and government that didn’t care to look into it. Lawyers like Sidney Powell took to the courts to overturn the election results. And then there was the events of January 6th, 2021 when the alleged insurrection happened after a speech by President Trump was held near the Capitol Building. So many things just kept spiraling out of control when people who merely prayed were charged with laws never meant to be used in the manner the Justice Department used them and ended going to what we called to this day, the DC Gulag. And a man that we saw deteriorate before our eyes sat in the Oval Office until he was forced to drop out of his election campaign this year.
On The Precipice
And as I record this podcast, Americans who voted early and those who voted today went to the polls to either elect Kamala Harris or Donald Trump. A lot hangs in the balance and it depends on who you support what will happen to the United States. Both sides are decrying that this will be the end of democracy but for very different reasons. However, from a Biblical standpoint and even a prophetic standpoint the stakes are high as well. One side sees Christians who say they want to take their country back as domestic terrorists and I’m not speaking hyperbolically when I say that. The FBI has elderly grandmas listed as threats to the nation as well as those who peaceably and lawfully pray outside abortion mills. One candidate even said that social media companies “are directly speaking to millions and millions of people without any level of oversight or regulation and it has to stop.” Somehow forgetting that freedom of speech is actually in our constitution, her supporters blithely agreed not realizing that if that sentiment was turned on them they would howl endlessly about their rights being violated. And it is the religious freedom along with the freedom of speech that is in real danger of being assaulted as the government of the last 4 years could continue their purge of churches and believers that speak out against abortion and sexual perversion forced on them by said elected officials.
What If Kamala Harris Prevails?
As Christians that see what her presidency would bring, it would be a nightmarish scenario where the current power grad would continue with the justice system and the FBI and CIA being unchecked in their crackdown on innocent citizens and elected officials that dare call them out for their biased abuse of power. Those literally wasting away in the DC Gulag will likely never get out as they are beaten down over and over again in a system that provides them with neither legal representation nor a voice to air their grievances. Abortion would be pushed with the aim to make the killing of the pre-born a national law and parents rights eroded simply because they want their children to be left alone by an education system that wants to raise them in an immoral fashion. Although I can’t say with certainty that a Harris administration will do this, she may feel the need to show the country that she is a strong leader by taking on Russia or China in a war over Taiwan or Ukraine. The various freedoms we will continue to lose could even mean that the sermons pastors preach could be under scrutiny by the IRS or the FBI and these pastors may also be seen as domestic terrorists. Am I just exaggerating these claims? I don’t think so because what I’m describing has already happened so the standard is already established. Have we forgotten how the government shut down our churches while they left open bars, strip joints, liquor stores, and marijuana dispensaries? Have we also forgotten pastors arrested and thrown into jail for not complying with the health demands of the lockdown? The crackdown on abortion protestors in just the last year is not an accident. No, these scenarios are very real.
What Should Christians Do?
I need to remind the Body of Christ that the Church was birthed and grew massively during the tyranny of the Roman Empire. Paul the Apostle listed his various persecutions for just spreading the Gospel on three missionary journeys. Can America survive four more years of what I described above? Probably not. But can the Church survive and even thrive under the specter of growing tyranny? Of course it can because it has before. Now, it won’t be the smoothest ride and will separate the men from the boys as they say, but the same character that gets us through calmer storms will be the same that helps get us through the big ones. And these hard times will also give us the opportunities to witness to people who are hurting and need a helping hand. While there are some who think we need to take over the areas of influence to be successful, we can influence without dominating our culture. In fact, as I alluded to before, the Body of Christ is often the strongest when we face the strongest opposition. Is God who is in us really stronger than the raging world around us? That answer should be a resounding yes and that answer can and will reverberate throughout the fallen world around us.
What If Trump Wins?
In some ways this is not the easiest path forward like many like to think. You see, when the church is in a situation where things are comfortable they often get lazy and are unproductive. Don’t get me wrong, I’d rather have a government that promotes and protects the religious freedoms guaranteed in our Constitution than one that constricts it. But as humans we tend to take the easy option long before we take the difficult or challenging one every time. My concern is that we will let Trump do the heavy lifting like we did in 2016 and not take advantage of the covering he will give us this time around. We must realize that no president should be expected to do the work of the church. And we must also realize that the forces that grabbed power in 2020 are not just going to cede that power willingly. They have been strategizing for decades and have backup plans for their backup plans and will not go quietly into that good night. They seem to be ready for even God’s plans for America if He dares oppose them, as silly as that seems given His track record. Can I say Pharaoh and the Red Sea? Such arrogance and hubris would still be what we have to face and we will need more intense intercession than ever before. If there is another Trump presidency the prophetic community will be needed more than ever to give us words of exhortation and guidance of what is on the horizon so we can prepare for the plans and schemes of the enemy. And the Body of Christ will need to rise up to even fill vacated roles when the swamp is drained bigly. It will be easier and harder all at the same time.
