Israel At War – Day 76
Timing Is Everything
American Support Waning
I’m not startled at all at signs of support for Israel is declining. Why? With a great deal of mainstream and social media berating them day after day and with so many protests happening as well, frankly it’s amazing the low views took so long to occur. We read more on this in a report from i24news.tv:
A Quinnipiac University poll released on Wednesday indicates that two months after Hamas's October 7 attack on Israel, American voters are divided on whether the United States should send more military aid to Israel, with 45 percent of respondents saying yes compared to 46 percent who are opposed.
A previous poll published on November 16 showed majority support around the same point, with 54 percent in favor of American aid to Israel compared to 39 percent who were opposed.
The data, however, shows that a majority of Americans consider that aid to Israel serves the interests of the United States, with 69 percent supporting this idea compared to 23 percent who do not approve.
The poll did try and explain things to a point:
"Feelings are changing as casualties in Gaza mount," commented Tim Malloy, a polling analyst at Quinnipiac University.
"While respondents clearly indicate they have a personal interest in supporting Israel, they are less enthusiastic about strengthening the country's arsenal," he added. He also notes that the differences in opinion are very marked depending on the age and political affiliation of the people questioned.
The poll also shows where support is higher and lower:
65 percent of Republicans support the United States sending more military aid to Israel, while 58 percent of Democrats support the idea. Among independents, 41 percent are in favor and 48 percent against.
Regarding the age group, voters over 65 years old as well as the 50-64 year old bracket support aid to Israel, while voters aged 18 to 34 and 35 to 49 years old support it.
The strongest opposition is expressed among the youngest panel, those aged 18-35, with 72 percent saying they are opposed to supporting Israel.
The poll also shows that the majority of white voters (51 percent) favor military aid to Israel, while the majority (56 percent) of black voters oppose it.
Other Countries Should Help Gaza
At least that’s the feelings of a candidate for president of the United States, Nikki Haley is when she was asked about it in an interview with David Brody as we read in another article from i24news.tv:
In an interview with the American media on Thursday, Republican Party candidate for President of the United States Nikki Haley said that the people of Gaza should leave the enclave.
"The Palestinians should have gone to the Rafah crossing and Egypt would have taken care of them. But I have always said that what the Palestinians need is to move to pro-Hamas countries such as Qatar, Iran and Turkey, she said.
Haley’s reasoning for Egypt not taking Gazans in is simple:
"Why doesn't Egypt want them? Because she doesn't really know who is a terrorist and who isn't," Haley argued.
But she thinks that supporters of Hamas should take them in:
"Instead of letting the world put pressure on Israel, brought to its knees by the worst massacre since the Holocaust, why not talk to Egypt, Turkey, Qatar or Iran? Why aren't they doing something to help the Palestinians?' asked Haley.
"They all come to help Israel when it is hurt, but they (the allied countries) hurt it when it fights back. If this happened to America, do you think we wouldn't fight back?! Where are the friends of Gaza? They are the ones who should do something to save them. "This should not concern Israel," she said.
Haley is known strong supporter of Israel.
Trouble In The Red Sea
I was asked about that is happening with the Houthi rebels in Yemen and their threats to shut down entry into the Red Sea, a key Middle East and global shipping lane. Here is more on the threats and the response from The Times Of Israel:
The United States on Monday announced a 10-nation coalition to quell Houthi missile and drone attacks on ships transiting the Red Sea, with Britain, France, Bahrain and Italy among countries joining the “multinational security initiative.”
“Countries that seek to uphold the foundational principle of freedom of navigation must come together to tackle the challenge posed by this non-state actor,” US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin said in a statement late-light Monday.
Iran-backed Houthi rebels have escalated attacks on tankers, cargo ships and other vessels in the Red Sea, imperiling a transit route that carries up to 12 percent of global trade.
Austin added that this is no small situation:
“This is an international challenge that demands collective action,” Austin said in statement released just after midnight in Bahrain. “Therefore today I am announcing the establishment of Operation Prosperity Guardian, an important new multinational security initiative.”
The United Kingdom, Bahrain, Canada, France, Italy, Netherlands, Norway, Seychelles, and Spain will join the US in the new mission, Austin announced. Some of the countries will conduct joint patrols while others provide intelligence support in the southern Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden.
Several other countries have also agreed to be involved in the operation but prefer not to be publicly named, a defense official said on the condition of anonymity to discuss additional details of the new mission that have not been publicly announced.
Shooting down drones and missiles will not stop the Houthis. The article ends on that note:
To date the US has not struck back at the Iranian-back Houthis operating in Yemen or targeted any of the militants’ weapons or other sites. On Monday, Austin did not answer a question as to why the Pentagon had not conducted a counterstrike.
Why Is This War Taking So Long?
I know that when I first started doing these daily updates on the war in Israel, I thought it would be over in a week or two. And as we keep hearing from sources in the know, the United States wants the fighting to end or substantially slow down by the end of this year. I know I was wrong just by the fact that this update is about day 76, but why are countries wanting this to end quickly? My guess is that it is purely political due to pro-Hamas elements in at least the United States government, many of whom didn’t want America to give any support to Israel in the first place. I also tend to think that the longer Israel is at war it will dominate the attention of the public and really the world and that takes eyes off of the war in Ukraine. But the real gift of timing for this war is that it exposes the rampant antisemitism seen literally all around the world. Its always been there, but now antisemites are showing their true colors. It is even creating a divide within Christians who see Israel and all the promises made for her in the Bible as now referring to the Church alone. This was predicted in the Bible and could even be a shadow of that dividing of the sheep and goats seen in Matthew 25. Regardless, letting Israel fight this war as thoroughly as they need to is the way to address this. This is a prophetic war and God will determine when it accomplishes what it has to. Man’s timing is not His timing. And His timing is everything.
