A Letter Everyone's Reading
On September 11, 2026, the Hebrew calendar turned to a new year - 5787. That's not usually a headline. But this year, a cluster of prophetic voices started reading meaning into those four numbers, and the conversation hasn't slowed down since.
Scripture actually makes room for watching the times closely. "Men of Issachar, who had understanding of the times, to know what Israel ought to do" (1 Chronicles 12:32) - the sons of Issachar didn't guess at the future. They read what was actually happening and knew what to do with it. That's the standard worth holding this conversation to.
So what is 5787, who's saying what about it, and how should you actually treat it? That's what this episode is for.
How the Letters Add Up
In Hebrew, 5787 is written תשפ״ז - four letters, each carrying a number and a traditional meaning. Tav is 400, Shin is 300, Peh is 80, and Zayin is 7. Add them up and you get 787, with the customary 5,000 assumed on top.
The letter drawing the most attention is Zayin - the seventh letter, valued at seven, traditionally pictured as a weapon or a harvesting tool. Peh, the letter just before it, is tied to the mouth and to speech. Put those two together and it's easy to see why so many voices have landed on the same word: sword.
One more detail worth knowing - as Olive Tree Ministries pointed out, the very first day of 5787 fell on a Sabbath. That's part of why not every voice reading this year is reading it as a call to battle.
Troy Brewer: Watch and Respond
Troy Brewer grounds his reading of 5787 in "He changes the times and the seasons; He removes kings and raises up kings" (Daniel 2:21), the same passage that describes God revealing deep and secret things to those who watch for them.
For Brewer, that's the whole point of a new Hebrew year. "When the calendar changes, so do authorities," he said. He's telling believers this is a season to watch closely and respond - stepping into new assignments, leaving behind ones that belonged to a previous season, and trusting God's timing rather than forcing their own. He ties that to biblical expectancy rather than personal presumption, drawing on "I will stand my watch and set myself on the rampart" (Habakkuk 2:1) as the posture believers should take.
Amanda Grace: A Season of Twos
Amanda Grace's reading leans into the fact that 5787 carries two sevens back to back. She's called it a season of "double," saying
"We're going into a time of double," in a recent interview. For Grace, that means blessing and warfare arriving together - double portions for believers on one side, echoing Elisha receiving Elijah's mantle, and what she calls "double decrees of destruction" attempting to go out on the other.
On the warfare side, she's cautioned believers to watch for "twin natural disasters, twin assassination attempts" as part of a broader 2025-2027 window she's been tracking around the 25th anniversary of 9/11 and President Trump's time in office.
Perry Stone: Words as Weapons
Perry Stone's read centers on Peh rather than Zayin - the number 80's tie to the mouth and to speech. His conclusion: "the child of God must use their words as a sword," he explained.
Stone is also the most careful of the voices covered here about what kind of statement he's making. He's called his own reading a hint rather than a revelation from the Holy Spirit - a distinction worth noticing on its own.
Curt Landry: The Sword in the Mouth
Rabbi Curt Landry reads the same sword imagery, but points it inward rather than outward - toward prayer and proclamation instead of conflict. He's described this transition as the setup for sudden shifts, believing God is raising up what he calls a remnant inside the remnant to stand as watchmen and speak boldly.
The Sabbath Side of the Sword
Not every voice on 5787 is picturing a fight. Olive Tree Ministries pairs the Zayin/sword imagery with the seventh day's older meaning - Sabbath and rest - and suggests the sharpest weapon available this year might be "learning to stop striving" and trusting God to fight on your behalf.
Haly Ministries reads all four letters as a sequence rather than a single symbol - Tav sealing the season, Shin pressing out what's old, Peh opening into breakthrough and testimony, and Zayin turning what's been cut away into harvest. "This is why I am calling 5787 a Season of Victory," the ministry writes - not one that skips the fight, but one that comes through it.
Weighing the Letter
Here's what's worth naming plainly: reading meaning into a calendar year's numbers isn't something Scripture instructs believers to do, and it isn't something Scripture forbids either. It sits in the category of a pattern someone noticed, not a word God spoke - which is exactly how Perry Stone framed his own reading above.
One Christian commentator, writing at bcworldview.org, pushed back on the whole exercise, arguing Scripture doesn't number years the way the modern Hebrew calendar does. His caution: Christians risk "manufacturing a message God hasn't given" whenever a date and a number happen to line up.
Scripture's own standard for anything presented as a word from God is "Do not despise prophecies. Test all things; hold fast what is good" (1 Thessalonians 5:20-21). That cuts both ways here - don't dismiss what these voices are pointing at, and don't build your whole year around it either. "Do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits, whether they are of God" (1 John 4:1) applies just as much to a letter as it does to a sentence.
Your Own Scalpel
Whatever 5787 turns out to hold for the nations, the sharper question is what it holds for you. If this is a year for cutting something away - Haly Ministries' word for it - don't wait for a sword pointed outward. Ask what needs the scalpel in your own life first.
"I will stand my watch... Though it tarries, wait for it; because it will surely come" (Habakkuk 2:1, 3) - that's the posture. Not passive waiting, and not manufactured urgency either. Just watching, faithfully, for what's real.
This week, name one specific thing in your own life - a habit, a grudge, a delay - and give God permission to cut it loose. Then act on it, putting legs on your prayers as Holy Spirit leads.
