The Prophetic Movement on Trial
Troy Black, Bo Polny, and the Lawsuit Threat Shaking Modern Prophecy

This Is A New One

I usually do a prophetic update on Tuesdays when I can and as I researched my usual prophetic sources I came across a unique situation where one prophet heard a word from God, delivered it and then the person it was about threatened to sue him over it. This is a messy situation to be certain and it actually goes against the Bible process of settling such disputes between Christians:

“If a brother sins against you, go to him privately and confront him with his fault. If he listens and confesses it, you have won back a brother. 16 But if not, then take one or two others with you and go back to him again, proving everything you say by these witnesses. 17 If he still refuses to listen, then take your case to the church, and if the church’s verdict favors you, but he won’t accept it, then the church should excommunicate him.[a] 18 And I tell you this—whatever you bind on earth is bound in heaven, and whatever you free on earth will be freed in heaven.

19 “I also tell you this—if two of you agree down here on earth concerning anything you ask for, my Father in heaven will do it for you.(Matt 18-15-19, TLB)

In this case the sin was hearing from God and releasing what was heard. But we live in a very litigious environment and now prophetic voices are using the legal system to deal with a rather damning word. In my opinion the Matthew 18 process should have been used and still could if cooler heads prevail. In any event the word was given by Troy Black and it was about Bo Polney. First let’s examine the actual prophecy given to Black.

The Great And Terrible Day Of The Lord

In prophecy the phrase The great and terrible day of the Lord is found in Malachi 4:5, Luke 1:-25 and Luke 1:57-80 among others. Many prophecy teachers see this as part of the Tribulation and I agree with them on that view. But it is at the heart of this dispute as we read in a transcript from the word Black revealed in a video on Apr 27, 2026:

,,, But I also shared a word of knowledge about current events. And in that word of knowledge, God gave me a, he gave me a message that in which he used the phrase a great and terrible day. Not the great and terrible day, but a great and terrible day. And I believe he did that on purpose essentially to transition into a word of warning about how some people are using the phrase the great and terrible day of the Lord online.

The original video didn’t mention names, but this one did:

People like Bo, I believe. And one of the things in that original message that I got from the Lord was the Lord mentioned Bo Polny by name. Now I did not say that in the original video because I was hoping and praying and I prayed about that and felt led not to at that time but I was hoping I wouldn't have to say his name out loud right in a video. And then then he came and he responded on X and we'll get to that in a minute. But these are the words. Y'all go watch the video. But this is the word of warning God gave me that I shared in that video. The Holy Spirit said, 'I want you to respond to the recent great and terrible day of the Lord prophetic timing that has been released. Then he said it it wasn't from it isn't from me. In most cases, prophetic words like this one are not from me. Then he said, I speak life and truth, not fear over my people.

So the issue is that these messages were causing fear and God wasn’t please with that:

Anyone who is telling you you need to be afraid or to act in fear are almost a and almost anytime they put a timeline of pressure upon you, run away. Then I heard don't listen to them anymore. It it's not helping you and your life. It's only making it worse. And so that was the word that I had heard and I shared the Lord after that. He said this is Bo Polny and this is a response to what he said. And I did not share that part, but now I am. And there's a reason for that.

No Fear

The actual phrase isn’t the problem according to the word:

So why is God giving this warning about is God saying that nobody will ever get a prophetic word that has the phrase the great and terrible day of the Lord? No, that's not what he's saying, right? But he but when it comes to the biblical prophecy, the great and terrible day of the Lord, if that day is upon us, then guess what? We're at the end. And the truth is, the reality is hiding in our house or staying home is not going to help. It's not going to change anything. Depending on your view of eschatology, we're either going to be raptured away or that we're in the tribulation and it's not going to matter, right, if we stay home or not.

Black sees Polny’s teaching as cultivating wrong attitudes and actions about the future:

Like but here's the truth of the reality is as Christians God does not want us to live in fear and practically when somebody starts date setting on things like this and saying well maybe it's April maybe it's March maybe it's February you know like what ends up happening is we lose our rest as as human beings like most people if you have a normal job you only have so much time off per year maybe so much paid time off or so many sick days and if we practically are listening to people that are telling us you have to stay home this day to this day and then it's Well, that didn't work. But now it's this day to this day. We've spent looking back all our time off anxiously waiting at home waiting for a terrible thing to happen that didn't. And then what happens when we literally lost our rest for the whole year. The Holy Spirit does not want us to live that way.

It is this issue of living in fear and not resting in Jesus that needs to be addressed in this word:

The scripture does not paint that kind of lifestyle. You know, it's it's very unhealthy. And I believe it's very hurtful to people's souls, you know, and I believe that's why God is having me respond to this right now. And so that [sighs] that hurts my heart to imagine that kind of life, right? You know, and I'm not saying God does not warn these people. He does. But I'm Let's get into this.

Bo’s Response

Polny then posted on his X account castigating Black for calling him out:

SHAME ON YOU @AuthorTroyBlack. You’re a FOOL for coming against God’s Prophets: Julie Green, Ken Christmas, Diana Larkin, Carolyn Dennis, Barry Wunsch, Brandon Biggs and others… who have ALL prophesied Angel of Death and Great and Terrible day coming!! Does your biblical ‘understanding’ of scripture supersede the Prophetic WORDS of God ? I think NOT!!!

This was the start of a back and forth between Polny and Black on X which you can peruse if you like. Polny did apologize for calling Black a fool which he should have but he didn’t back down at all. If there was any following the Matthew 18 process I didn’t see it. Instead an offer to do a livestream on what the phrase means was given which Black didn’t accept. Instead God told him to respond this way:

This is what I wrote. I say this in love, Bo. I know this may be very difficult to hear, but I hope you can. Number one, as I look over your ex feed, the gift of discerning of spirit starts going off. It is plainly evident that you are operating in fear and causing others to live their lives in fear. Number two, the Holy Spirit is asking me right now to tell you to stop. I did not write that because I was assuming that. That was me praying and saying, "Lord, what do you want me to do?" And the Holy Spirit said, "I want you to tell him to stop." This is number three. I'm not coming against God's prophets, but if a prophecy or teaching is wrong or being applied wrong, I'm going to speak the truth in love when necessary.

Black believes that it doesn’t matter how many prophetic voices agree with each other, if something is Biblically tested and is wrong it should be called out:

But at the same time, there's a reason why scripture 1 Corinthians 14 and 1 Thessalonians 5 tells us to test and to weigh prophecy and to hold fast to that which is good and to reject every form of evil. Because God knew when he was writing the Bible that there would be people that thought they were hearing God and they weren't. Or somebody else heard God and then they came along and they repeated it or they added to it or they added a timeline to it that wasn't from the Lord, whatever it was, you know. So, if something's wrong, we can't just brush it under the rug and say, "It doesn't matter. It's fine. We don't want to hurt the movement." If we're not exposing things that are wrong, we've already hurt the move. The movement needs to be hurt at that point. The movement's not good, right? The true movements that God is behind are the ones that are operating out of a spirit of truth… But if a prophetic word or a teaching is wrong or if somebody's taking a word or a teaching or something and applying it wrong and date setting and you know and missing it or whatever that kind of stuff, I'm going to I'm going to have to say something about that if the Lord leads me to or somebody should whoever God is going to choose, right? But somebody's going to need to say something about that.

Black Responds

Then God gave Black a response to all the online back and forth:

Then I heard this. It's directly for Bo. If he ends up listening, I don't know if he will or not. But I heard Bo, I'm speaking very plainly now. At this point, it is needed. I am not happy with the way you have been stringing my people along and causing a spirit of terror to inflict some. It is time to stop before it's too late. Stop now for the sake of the people who listen to you and for your own sake. Then I heard this and I just felt the compassion of the Lord. He said, "My heart for you is good. Yet I cannot bless what I am not a part of." And then later I heard Bo is making use of my name, but he is running with something that is not of me.

Black then adds this from his own feelings:

My hope and my prayer is that if this is an if this is an accurate word, which I believe it is, is that Bo, you would be able to hear this, you'd be able to hear the grace, not not from me. I'm just a man. I'm just trying to be obedient. But the grace and the love that God has for you, my friend. He doesn't want you to walk down the path you've been walking down. He's got a better path for you.

Then came the legal action which you can read online if you like. It’s titled Subject: 14-Day Good-Faith Notice and Request for Corrective Action Regarding Public Statements About Bo Polny. Essentially Black was given 2 weeks to respond. In a video from Black from May 15th of this year we got his response. There has been a lot of calling each other false prophets using previous words from each other which is on Black’s web site, at least giving evidence from Polny’s previous words. In it he makes it clear he has no intention of retracting anything. He also says that the Matthew 18 process doesn’t apply since Polny came after Black publicly. Black says that if sued he will have no choice but to take legal action himself. I don’t know about you, but this could have far reaching damning and chilling effects on the whole modern-day prophetic movement going forward.

What Do I Think?

Even though Polny made public charges and even filed a cease-and-desist letter, attempting to use the Matthew 18 process is still available to both of them. The passage in another translation helps us see it can still be followed:

“If a fellow believer hurts you, go and tell him—work it out between the two of you. If he listens, you’ve made a friend. If he won’t listen, take one or two others along so that the presence of witnesses will keep things honest, and try again. If he still won’t listen, tell the church. If he won’t listen to the church, you’ll have to start over from scratch, confront him with the need for repentance, and offer again God’s forgiving love. (MSG)

While Black believes the proverbial horse is out of the barn, I think they can meet privately to bury the hatchet. At least that’s my view of this. I can see other prophetic voices getting in on this and picking sides which will unnecessarily cause a divide in the people God wants to use to speak for Him. Is this really God’s way of purifying these men and women, though? Black rightly says that all these words need to be tested if we want to avoid being deceived in the end times. It is my hope that this infighting will result in holding all modern prophets to account for when they miss it and then not to miss it in the future. And I pray it won’t lead to the overall prophecies and prophets being discredited and the baby being thrown out in the bath water.
